BACKGROUND
The Serbian School “St. Sava” in Brisbane was officially established in 2002, founded by a group of dedicated individuals, including Biljana Celebicanin, Dragana Tulic, Jasminka Susa, Dusanka Ilic, and Milijana Jankovic, with the valued support and spiritual guidance of Father Jovan Cvetic.
The school started with a modest group of students and a modest learning space, initially focused on preserving and passing on the richness of the Serbian language, distinctive customs, traditions, and the invaluable history of the Serbian nation—an ancient lineage among the world’s oldest nations—to successive generations.
As the Serbian community population grew, so did the interest and shared aspirations among its members. The common goal was to sustain the language and culture despite the considerable geographical distance between Australia and the homeland.
At present, the school boasts an enrolment of more than 100 students distributed across five classes, each structured in accordance with the typical school age groups and aligned with the Queensland School Calendar.
